The Happiest Day of My Life

The morning of my wedding I was so excited I woke up at 6am! I didn’t feel nervous because I knew I was marrying my lover, my best friend and mentor.  I lay there remembering his proposal (click here to read it) and marvelled how quick the time had flown by.

He was the first person I spoke to that day. He called me from his hotel room it seems like he couldn’t sleep either.  We were both looking forward to the day. After his call I lay in bed and read for a while until I heard my bridesmaid get up and then I knew it was time for me to also get ready and here is what I wore;

The Dress

My dress was a Hilary Morgan style – when people talk about finding ‘the one’ this dress was it for me. It was beautiful and simple and every time I wore it I felt so elegant in it.

The Shoes

Finding shoes was really difficult for me, I wanted low heeled but opened toed, I bought these shoes which were plain but one of my bridesmaids put these lovely diamanté stones on them.

The Hair
I know that there are an array of natural hairstyles, but in the end I decided to go for a simple cinabun style. One of my bridesmaids decorated it with pearl hair pins.  I didn’t want something too complicated, I knew I wanted an up do and I wanted something that I knew would suit my dress and accessories.
This is the bouquet I chose.

From that morning phone call right up until until I lay to rest at night all I felt was Joy. I will say that it was the happiest day of my life so far I cannot wait to experience this next chapter.

Crying Tears of Joy when getting ready – lucky mum was there.
Me with my beautiful bridesmaids
Ok –  I know I am not smiling here but I wanted you to see my hair and accessories

My Lovely Groom

I have hundreds of photographs to look through and decide which to keep, which to frame and which to bin but hope you liked these few that I shared with you.

I’m back!!

After some really amazing weeks I am back. It feels so strange to return to writing and I am totally at a loss where to start.
SO much has happened in my life that I don’t feel quite like the person I was.
Firstly I got married on the 20th July and it was one of the happiest days of my life, I had so much fun and such a beautiful day, when I go through the photos I will do a full wedding report, where I tell you all, shoes, dress, hairstyle etc etc I know you are all dying to know.
I went on my honeymoon, I went to Boa Vista in Cape Verde…wow I had an amazing time again this needs a separate post you probably want to know what products I took with me – I even tried a new natural deodorant that actually works.
I came back and even found time to take myself to the Olympics where I sat in the stadium when Usain Bolt won his 100 meters, wow wow wow!!!!!
Whilst I was away, hair was a hot topic at the Olympics, did you read about that poor Gabby Douglas the 16 year old gymnast who instead of getting applause for her gold medal everyone was asking ‘what’s going on with her hair?’

Gabby Douglas…I did not watch her perform. What was the problem?
Then there was hurdler Jason Richardson with his dreadlocks sparked a debate on ‘should runners have long hair?’ since that fraction of a second makes a difference long hair could slow them down.

Jason Douglas – didnt he get silver I LOVED his hair
Also everyone is talking about poor Naomi Campbell’s hairline asking why oh why…don’t judge though that probably will never grow back so now she will probably have to stick to the wigs and weaves, remember hair doesn’t always forgive you and it might be too late for her to stop wearing them.

Poor Poor Naomi – a lifetime of weaves did this.

What else…oh yes my inbox was full of people asking me if I am doing the event this year….yes October as always.  How can they get involved?  (exhibitor, speaker, volunteer, goodiebags) email me to start with. Where is it? Central London – I will announce the venue and date in a few weeks.
That’s it for now…Hope you are doing well.

Wedding Cake Toppers

This Cake topper has braids!
We are deep into wedding planning. We have the location of the venue and the church and have even had a tasting with the caterers.  Everything is going ok however I am finding that when you put the word ‘wedding’ in front of anything its triple the price and considering we want to do up our new house I really don’t want to break the bank.

My mum is going to do my cake. At first I thought I had better shop around as whilst she is a trained caterer and can decorate cakes, I thought she might want to take the day off.

Anyway of course like any mum she is delighted to do it for me and told me to start sending photos of the kind of cakes I want.

Whilst looking at cakes I realised I would need a topper and came across quite a few different ones and realised wow I need to relax a bit on this natural hair front – would any of my guests notice or care if my cake topper had straight hair?? lol Anyway
Here are the type of things I came across.

A little serious huh? Are they a happy couple?

This would be adorable if they both had fro’s Like the fact she has braids though.

This is cute – This could be a natural up-do.

If we were getting married abroad this would be the one.
This is so beautiful! He has locks.

If I told you these were over £80 would you believe me?
The thing is, these are my favourite not a fro in sight.  But I cannot pay that much!

Which do you like the best?
