Naturally Fabulous 2012

I know that you are all looking forward to the 2012 event but I am going to have to disappoint you and tell you that unfortunately it will not be taking place this year.
It’s been a really hard decision and I took time over it but let me explain why I made it.
In 2010 when I did the first event there was nothing else going on in the UK. My aim was to bring you something you didn’t already have.  Adornment had been and gone and there was nothing for us naturals. It was a beautiful day and really enjoyable. It was the start of something.
2011 was the second event and I had the same aim in mind, I had to bring you something you didn’t already have. It was tough because now 40 or so other events had sprung up but I was confident that I could give you a unique experience. So I bought you the fashion show with hair styled by Bespoke Hairstyles, the best vendors in town and jam packed goodie bags with fabulous giveaways. It was amazing, someone said to me that I ‘knocked it out of the ball park’ everyone had such a good time and with 300 of you buying tickets in advance it was a huge success.
Now it’s 2012 and with nearly 100 events I want to do even better, not just another event but something people will remember. Honestly I want people saying “I was there” I want you to be wowed just like many of you were last year and I just can’t do it right now. People are starting to complain about seeing the same speakers and vendors at every event I just need more time to make something special.
I love organising events, I do them for a living and prior to The Natural Lounge I used to organise other events so just wait for me.
I am going to spend this time researching and planning, I am going to gather a team, I am going to plan an strong line up so if there is another event you can be assured to know that I put my heart into making it …well…Naturally Fabulous and you will be the first to be invited.
Before I go I just want to send a virtual hug and a huge thank you to anyone that has supported me. I really love to see how the UK Natural scene has grown and I am so proud to be a part of it.
Love you all

I’m back!!

After some really amazing weeks I am back. It feels so strange to return to writing and I am totally at a loss where to start.
SO much has happened in my life that I don’t feel quite like the person I was.
Firstly I got married on the 20th July and it was one of the happiest days of my life, I had so much fun and such a beautiful day, when I go through the photos I will do a full wedding report, where I tell you all, shoes, dress, hairstyle etc etc I know you are all dying to know.
I went on my honeymoon, I went to Boa Vista in Cape Verde…wow I had an amazing time again this needs a separate post you probably want to know what products I took with me – I even tried a new natural deodorant that actually works.
I came back and even found time to take myself to the Olympics where I sat in the stadium when Usain Bolt won his 100 meters, wow wow wow!!!!!
Whilst I was away, hair was a hot topic at the Olympics, did you read about that poor Gabby Douglas the 16 year old gymnast who instead of getting applause for her gold medal everyone was asking ‘what’s going on with her hair?’

Gabby Douglas…I did not watch her perform. What was the problem?
Then there was hurdler Jason Richardson with his dreadlocks sparked a debate on ‘should runners have long hair?’ since that fraction of a second makes a difference long hair could slow them down.

Jason Douglas – didnt he get silver I LOVED his hair
Also everyone is talking about poor Naomi Campbell’s hairline asking why oh why…don’t judge though that probably will never grow back so now she will probably have to stick to the wigs and weaves, remember hair doesn’t always forgive you and it might be too late for her to stop wearing them.

Poor Poor Naomi – a lifetime of weaves did this.

What else…oh yes my inbox was full of people asking me if I am doing the event this year….yes October as always.  How can they get involved?  (exhibitor, speaker, volunteer, goodiebags) email me to start with. Where is it? Central London – I will announce the venue and date in a few weeks.
That’s it for now…Hope you are doing well.

Naturally Fabulous – Photos!!

Naturally Fabulous!
So first of all I want to thank all 300+ of you who came out on Saturday for Naturally Fabulous with The Natural Lounge and Naptural Roots Magazine

Even though our Agenda was reduced because of no Q and no Amina the day still went well. The best part of the day for me was having a chat with two beautiful young ladies who told me they were just 16 and it was really encouraging for them. They were feeling so positive about their hair and one even said she wished she could take out her braids right there and then. For people that live in other towns that said it was too far to come…people travelled from France, The Netherlands and the US to attend so next year I don’t want to hear it 🙂

The worst part…hmmmm well being told that people still came to sell things out of their bags was a bit upsetting. I figure that if you are reading and you did that you are obviously not for the event continuing or succeeding. Remembering that I am just an individual have a think about how events like this can be supported or funded.

Here are some of the photos there were so many I did not know what to post!

I also wanted to say THANK YOU to anyone that helped with this event, there are too many of you to write and I feel that if I put some names of the sponsors, helpers, press, bloggers, vendors, designers for the fashion show and people who donated prizes I might forget someone and I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. So instead, if you helped out in any capacity to make the event a success (you know who you are) I really really appreciate it.

See you all next October 🙂
