My Kinky Experiment

The only product I have ever used in the Kinky Curly range is the Knot Today. I use it in the leave in conditioner recipe I got from Kimmaytube. I have also used it alone and found it’s a fantastic detangler after washing.

I guess the real reason why I haven’t bothered to try any of the other products is they are more expensive than my regular hair care products. Also my regular hair care products are doing a good job so I never felt the need to change.

Anyway on Friday a friend, who had recently been to New York came back with everything pictured below apart from the spritz. It was a belated birthday gift but for me it felt like early Christmas!

So on Saturday I decided to use everything exactly as they recommend.

First of all the Shampoo, I never co-wash, I always use shampoo. I started running a couple of months ago so I exercise three times a week, I need something that will wash not only the product build up from my hair, I needs to remove old sweat and grease. It has to do this without making my hair feel stripped or damaged. The Come Clean shampoo gets a 10/10 for this. It did all the above and more, my hair felt surprisingly softer afterwards. I also noticed that my curls were in beautiful little ringlets.

Usually after shampooing on the weekend I will put a conditioner on my hair with a plastic cap and sit for a while and wash it off later but for the experiment I didn’t do this, I just followed what it said on the bottles. After shampooing, I used the Knot Today and combed through my hair – really easily – but then I have used this before so I knew what to expect.

Next I parted my hair into sections and then braided them using the curling custard.

Then I took myself to bed

The next day was Sunday and I had a friends event to go to took out all the braids around 11am and found that a few sections of my hair were still a little damp. I have heard before that when people use the curling custard it takes ages to dry but I thought overnight it would be cool.

However the dry parts of my hair were soft and shiny so all in all everything worked. I don’t have a photo because I had to take them out and rush off. Have you tried any of the Kinky Curly range and what did you find?

  1. Hey Angel! I avoid KCCC for the longest time because of all the comments I read about it being finicky. My niece gave me a sample and I’ve liked it ever since. I don’t use the soaking wet method they suggest and still get good definition without the crunchiness. I’m not sold on the leave in, I probably won’t buy it again.

    Glad it worked for you!

  2. I am glad you posted this as I have also been wanting to try the Kinky Curly range (the Knot Today and the Curling Custard). I am taking a trip to the states this weekend and these products are on my shopping list. I had left out the shampoo, but now I will give it a whirl too.

  3. Great to finally meet you! hopefully we can do it again soon xoxox

  4. @ CG hey hun, well next time I might just try you way and not the soaking wet method
