Thailand & Products.

You may have noticed I have been a bit quiet, that’s because we decided to go on holiday and headed off to Thailand on the 7th November. We just got back, so If you have sent me an email I am getting to it…. I have 300 unread!

Now people that have been reading this blog a while may notice that we also went last year, but this time we went to a different place we went to Koh Samui. It was truly beautiful and the weather was fantastic. Our hotel was right on the beach and as well as sightseeing we made sure we enjoyed a few days just relaxing.

This is the beach we were on.

So today whilst I am still in holiday mode I thought I would tell you some of the thing that I took with me that proved invaluable for my hair and body.

BeUNIQUE Hair Care’s Mango Twist –   £8.95

This is a moisturising styling cream for twists and braids. I didn’t take this with me but just before leaving I did my hair in twists using this stuff. They stayed in for the entire holiday and looked great!

Koils by Nature Nourishing Hair and Body Butter (Unscented) – $12.50
Ingredients: Shea butter, coconut oil, kokum butter, mango butter, avocado butter, aloe butter, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, *organic extra virgin olive oil, illipe butter, *Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Vitamin E, Pro-Vitamin (B5).

I had a little sample pot and I took this onto the plane with me it, when my skin or hair was feeling dry I just put it on. Also after being out in the sun I put a little on my skin and it didn’t dry, instead it stayed soft and moisturised, On the website they say “Use sparingly, a little goes a long way!” They are right.

Fro – Avocado and Mango Melody – £8.50
Ingredients: Avocado Butter, Mango Butter, Shea butter, Coco butter, Coconut oil, peach oil, cucumber oil, west Indian bay oil, rosemary oil, castor oil and lime oil.

As regular readers know this is my staple hair moisturiser, I am yet to be swayed by another yet. I used it daily throughout my time away and my hair remained moisturised and soft.

Jane Carter Solution -Revitalizing leave-in conditioner – £10.95

Ingredients: Purified Water, Extracts of Aloe Vera, Comfrey, Watercress, Myrrh, Panthenol, Essential Oils, Anthemis Noblis Flower, Symphytum OfficinalLeaf, Equisetum Arvense, Urtica Dioica (Nettle), Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Lawsonia Inermis (Henna), Butoxyethenol, Polyquarternium11, Soyamid DEA, PPG30, Cetyl Ether, Oleth-3 Phosphate, Hydantoin, Glyceryl caprylate, methylisothiazolinone (preservative)

It says on the bottle that it protects from heat and the sun so I used this as my spritz daily (morning and evening) and because it contains humecents, it increased my hair’s ability to hold moisture. Thailand was humid so my hair was loving it!

My total hours travelling there was 17 hours (two planes and two taxis) Neither planes had TV’s in the back of our seat but luckily I had my ipod and two books with me. I read ‘Tied to the Soul’ by Eva G Headley, this was a really easy read for the plane and I got through it quickly. It’s a love story set in LA nothing at all to do with hair. I also had ‘Hair Matters’ by Ingrid Banks I started it and it looks to be a really good book so far, I am reading the introduction and it’s about why hair matters to black women.

I didn’t wash my hair whilst away so the first thing I did when I get back was take out the twists and get my hair washed and deep conditioned. When I took my twists out I am sure my hair has grown and it is feeling so soft – I might have to take a photo next time I take it out again.

  1. very confused, did you swim? did you get your hair wet? or Did your hair stay dry for the entire time you were away?

  2. Yeah I swam but let it dry naturally I didn’t wash it at all whilst I was away though.

  3. So at night did you wash the sea water out during your shower? I’m pressing the point, because I want to go on holiday without having to drag along conditioner etc

  4. Yes I did, I made sure I washed my hair with fresh water when I came out of the sea – remember some people never use shampoo or conditioner at all. This is what worked for me, but remember my hair was in twists and everyone’s hair is different

    thanks, that is encouraging.
