Wait, A Disney Princess with Natural Hair and Locs?

When I was growing up, Disney princesses never looked like me, in fact it wasn’t until 2009 when Disney’s first black princess Tiana came onto the scene in The Princess and the Frog.

This is why I loved these images by Artist TT of LetThereBeDoodles. She has redrawn Disney princesses into women of colour and given them natural hair and locs! Since she posted them, the images have gone viral.

They have not all been drawn into black women check this stunning image out.

In an interview with E online she told them there was “No political agenda, no ulterior motives” when drawing the images, she went onto to say “I just love Disney and chose a few of my favourite characters to alter. I feel like there’s beauty in every racial background, and this is honestly nothing more than an exploration of different races from a technical and artistic standpoint.”

Well it’s a wonderful exploration and I would definitely watch these films!  Sadly as far as I know there won’t be a Disney star with locs anytime soon, but perhaps if they saw these images they might get inspired!
